Hello, and welcome to Southern Lee's  ELL home page!  My name is Ms. De Avila and I am pleased to be serving Southern Lee ELL population for the fourth year! The 2019-20 school year brings with it some unique challenges and opportunities as we helps students to study more efficiently and prepare themselves for colleges and careers in their futures. I am excited to help students grow in their language proficiency.

Mr. Carlos Santiago is our Teacher Assistant this year at Southern Lee.

My name is Mr. Carlos Santiago and this is my first year in Lee County Schools. I hail from San Juan, Puerto Rico, where I obtained a degree in Business Administration, and after serving for 22 years in the U.S. Army I’m honored to now be serving our youth and future leaders. Along with Mrs. Paola DeAvila, I look forward to assist and mentor our students during the 2019-20 academic year. I have been active in the Lee County community for many years as a youth football coach, and my passion for the future success of our children is the driving force behind my commitment to provide the best counseling and instructional assistance to our student body.

It is my absolute pleasure to be a part of the Lee County Schools team, should I ever be of any assistance I can be contacted at csantiago.ls@lee.k12.nc.us

He will be at Southern Lee every Tuesday and Thursday.  In his role, he will perform clerical duties, act as a parent liaison, and work with students to make the ELL program as effective as it can be.

Please feel free to explore the Southern Lee ELL site.  You'll find the menu on the top that will take you to a variety of pages, dedicated to each of the courses I teach.    This website should contain all the information you need about this program, but as always, the phone lines are open at Southern Lee and you are welcome to call should you need additional information about the ELL program or any other programs, academic or otherwise, offered at Southern Lee High School.  Thanks for visiting!

    Meet the Teacher

Hi! My name is Ms. De Avila, and this is my sixth year in Lee County Schools.  I look forward to working in partnership with Mr. Santiago throughout the 2019-20 year.  I am confident that together we can provide the support and encouragement needed to help you, as a student excel.  I started my career as an Investigator Payment Specialist at a pharmaceutical company in Nutley, NJ with an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice at Kaplan University.  In 2010 my family and I decided to move to NC; it was a life-changing experience.  I took the opportunity to join an after school program and I really enjoyed working with a dedicated staff that impacted children’s lives daily.  I went back into the pharmaceutical industry until the opportunity to work in Lee County Schools came about.  It is a pleasure to be a part of this team! If you need to contact me, my email address is pdeavila.sl@lee.k12.nc.us. Telephone number: (919) 718-2400 ext. 2169
